Item Details
This cigar box has been made in the shape of a Napoleon III merry-go-round. It has been made using beautifully grained Thuya burl and black ebony wood. The base and cap have a serpentine shape embellished with ornate pressed metal beading, the knob is also decorated with the beading (some is missing) and has a white glass cabochon on the top. The doors are all fitted with a gilt metal lyre to the exterior. On the top is a knob that you turn to open and close the doors to access the cigars. Once it would have had attached a musical box that would be activated by opening the doors, the music box mechanism would have closed the doors automatically when the music stopped, sadly this has long gone. There are 6 doors each fitted with gilt brass fittings to hold three cigars.
