This is a rare Wilf Squirrelman Hutchinson English oak refectory dining table, made c1960. As for the over 40 ‘Yorkshire Critter Carvers’ Wilf Hutchinson served his apprenticeship at Robert Mouseman Thompson's workshop in Kilburn, alongside master carver Stan Dodds. In 1957 he coined 'Squirrelman' or Squirrel Woodcarvers working with the finest seasoned English oak using traditional hand tools and using traditional crafting methods. The wonderfully adzed top shows the grain of the oak beautifully. The table is supported by two bench ends with pegged stretchers, the ends have some great detailing, one is carved with the Squirrel mark. Great age related patina and wear, there is a crack to the top. A matching set of six with two carvers squirrelman chairs are available separately see separate listing at £395.
