Unusual N.E.E. Minty Upholstered Ash Framed Sofa with Feather Cushions. Minty furniture was established in 1880 by Norman Minty in Oxford at 45 High Street, and became a household name due to the high quality of manufacture and great aesthetics. They made a wicker chair known as the “Varsity”, and it was said that every undergraduate had one. Both selling and manufacturing it’s own furniture in Oxford, with shops in London and Manchester. The company flourished in the early 20th century and made canvas goods for the army during both world wars. A large purpose built factory, in Oxford, opened in the 60s, where this sofa would have been made. Sadly the firm went into receivership in the early 90’s. This stunning sofa with scatter cushions exemplifies Minty’s brand ethos. The sofa has an ash frame, and is beautifully upholstered in a woven canvass with feather filled cushions. The fabric features designs inspired by the far east displaying Buddhist gods, elephants, tigers, plants, banners and more. The designs are all in sage green, blue, brown and muted gold tones against a rich cream ground. The cushion covers can be removed for cleaning.
